Is ICF Certification Mandatory?

To be a life-executive coach, is it mandatory to be a certified coach?

Actually, no.

Think about it. Even to get the ICF ACC certificate (which is the first level certificate in ICF), you have to complete 100 hrs. of coaching, of which 75 hrs. must be paid.

This itself means that you have start coaching before you get your internationally recognised certificate.

But then why is it important to get the certificate?

Because it increases your credibility. Because when you undergo the right training for your certification process, you know you are doing the right thing, when you say you are coaching.
You are not just adding the tag- coach in front of your name, but you actually embody the difference between a coach, a trainer, a mentor, a guide… etc. etc.

So that you have a proper structure, a mechanism, that you follow to help your client reach to the solution, and you know the art of coaching, how to be in presence, how to keep your client in presence, the art of asking right questions to evoke awareness in your client, and so much more.

A good coach specific training, teaches you the competencies of coaching.

A great coach training… transforms you before you start creating the transformation in many.
